District details
Incumbent Sen. Danielle Conrad is running unopposed to represent District 46 in the Nebraska Legislature.
Conrad, a Democrat, first started in the Legislature in 2006. Nebraskans reelected her in 2010 and 2022. She is a civil rights attorney.
Conrad is endorsed by the Sierra Club, Campaign for a Healthy Nebraska, the Nebraska State AFL-CIO, the Nebraska Young Democrats and Women Who Run.
On the issues
Conrad said she’s running again because Nebraska needs strong, steady leadership now more than ever. She said she is committed to civility, knows how to build coalitions and is unafraid to speak truth to power to protect citizens, communities and values.
Conrad said the top issue of the district is affordability. She said the governor and some lawmakers care only about social issues and policies beneficial to corporations.
Conrad said she does not support Gov. Jim Pillen’s plan to increase sales taxes to offset property tax relief, and said that it would have hiked taxes on families and businesses to benefit wealthy landowners. She said lawmakers should address property tax relief through expanding the homestead exemption, establishing a circuit breaker program and supporting public schools.
Conrad said state senators and constitutional officers should not delay or undermine voter-approved ballot measures according to their own beliefs or to benefit their personal finances.
Conrad said the effort to establish new data centers in Nebraska threatens family farmers, natural resources and the state’s public power system. She said she supports local communities establishing moratoriums on data centers, and would fight for state legislation against them, too.
Conrad said the governor and some state senators are at fault for the state’s budget deficit, having used funds for tax cuts benefiting the wealthy and corporations. She said she would continue to fight against tax cuts at the expense of families, seniors and essential services, close tax loopholes that benefit the wealthy and support new revenue streams.
Conrad said Nebraska leaders need to focus on retaining and recruiting young professionals to combat brain drain rather than “waging divisive culture wars.” She said leaders should ensure fiscal responsibility, bring thoughtful approaches to governance and restore the state government’s focus on workforce development and quality-of-life issues.
