The Race

The commission regulates telecommunications carriers, jurisdictional natural gas utilities, major oil pipelines, grain warehouses and dealers, the construction of manufactured and modular homes and private water company rates.

DeBoer, a Democrat, currently represents Legislative District 10 in Douglas County. Nebraska voters elected her in 2018 and again in 2022. She is also a lawyer.

McCann, a Republican, is retired. He previously led the Omaha-Douglas County 911 system.

DeBoer is endorsed by Women Who Run.

In the primary

DeBoer received about 19,000 more votes than McCann in the primary.

On the issues

Neither candidate responded to the Flatwater Free Press questionnaire.

DeBoer said on her campaign website that she has actively worked to improve technology in 911 centers through her work in the Legislature. She told the Nebraska Examiner she would prioritize providing 911 centers with enough infrastructure and equipment to stay operational in all situations, increasing highway safety for motorists and construction workers and modernizing infrastructure.

McCann, according to his campaign website, is running to bring real-world experience and steady leadership to the Public Service Commission. He told the Nebraska Examiner that if elected, he would prioritize providing cost-effective and dependable services for both taxpayers and service providers.
