Ebers, a Democrat, is a hotel manager. He previously ran to represent Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional District in 2024.
Spellerberg, a Republican, is Nebraska’s 47th treasurer. He served as the mayor of Fremont from 2020 to 2025.
Ebers is endorsed by the Nebraska Young Democrats.
Spellerberg is endorsed by the Nebraska Farm Bureau.
In the primary
Spellerberg received about 50,000 more votes than Ebers in the primary election.
On the issues
Ebers did not respond to Flatwater Free Press’ questionnaire. He told the Nebraska Examiner he’s running to give voters a choice in the race. Spellerberg said he’s running again to bring fiscally conservative leadership to the office and protect taxpayer dollars.
Spellerberg said he’s the most qualified candidate because of his background in public service and operating a small business. He said he would continue delivering real results if elected again and commit to serving a full four-year term.
Spellerberg said his top priorities if elected would be protecting taxpayer dollars, investing state funds responsibly and increasing accountability in state government. He said he would continue to return unclaimed property and expand opportunities for financial security. Ebers told the Nebraska Examiner he would make the treasurer’s office more efficient and restore trust in the office.
Spellerberg said being a small business owner, mayor and state treasurer distinguishes him from his opponent. He said his office has focused on putting taxpayer dollars first. Ebers told the Nebraska Examiner he would bridge the gap between government and the taxpayer points of view.
